Action Management for your Company
Management is the “scientific art of directing all actions with a degree of skill so as to alter the system to increase value for all constituents”.

T
he Action Management System, developed by The Management Practice is a system that is applied to all Actions in an enterprise (Action - the fact of doing). Action Management for your Company produces improvements in business operations, design, planning, and risk management.

AMS is about the commitment of each and every person to specific actions that reduce risks and add value to make your business more competitive and more profitable. AMS supports all staff with detailed specifications and responsibilities for all actions required of them by the business. AMS is integrated up to the Board level to assure complete transparency and to bring “peace of mind” to Directors. Look at the Benefits (click here).

Action Management for your Company is a simple and fast 5-step "how to" process that leads to the final creation of a Value Engine (a computer-based management system provided by us) to help you run your business better. The Value Engine includes the performance management of all business areas assigned to all managers and staff. The Action Management System is then integrated with a shared Knowledgebase (built by you, with our help, as a key component of AMS) that will evolve to contain all the procedures and documents that determines how your whole business operates.

This includes the processes that all staff need to achieve their targeted performance measures and to create value for all constituents. The Knowledgebase can also be extended to give all staff access to knowledge about the Skills & Experience of all employees. The Value Engine for your Company can then be securely linked to our online Centre for Performance Management. This Internet-based system enables all staff performance reviews and confidential Knowledgebase content to be accessed online only by authorised staff. The Value Engine is also used to collect and test new business initiatives, validate new business ideas, and to track all business improvement projects.

The simple 5-step process (see Diagram) is summarised below:
(1) Create your Business DNA
We work with management to develop a value-based structured analysis of the business. We work with staff to ascertain precisely on what, and how employees spend their time. We then consult with senior management to establish the key operating success criteria and critical operating actions required to drive the new Business DNA.
(2) Assess Risks to the Business
We jointly undertake a complete Risk Analysis of all elements of the new Business DNA. This comprehensive analysis is then integrated into your Business DNA which then gives you a concise graphic overall view of the "health" of the business.
(3) Assign Responsibility to People
We then work with management to assign personnel to cover all DNA Action areas and to build links to other personnel information. Staff roles are then developed that are a direct reflection and implementation of the Business DNA. We define performance measures for all staff Actions (within their roles) and establish resources required for staff to implement all their Actions.
(4) Identify and Implement Improvements
We review, consolidate, document, and evaluate all operational Actions and generate new Ideas and Recommendations required for the continued improvement of the business.
(5) Measure Business Performance
Throughout steps (1) to (4) we therefore evolve an appropriate static (or dynamic) business system of Company operations. This system is then used by the CEO and Senior Management as an operational Business System that optimises and measures business actions to create maximum business value. Reporting systems are established as required.

(more information in the form of a PowerPoint presentation (800KB file) can be downloaded here).

Throughout the 5-Step process a Knowledgebase is progressively built. This is a consolidation of all operational procedures and documents plus financial and non-financial measures, and links both internal and external operational information required for the efficient use by managers and staff. The Knowledgebase therefore becomes a critical component of the optimisation of staff productivity and of the profitable operation of the business.

The Action Management System can be viewed as an Operational Risk Management System. The CEO can obtain a Hot Spot Report identifying the highest risk actions in the business that could jeopardize the immediate future profits, performance, costs, or service levels. This allows Anticipatory Management. Stress Testing can also be optionally provided (via a dynamic value engine) that can predict the behaviour of actions under pressure to allow managers to undertake preventative actions before anticipated events occur.
